Skin and Sin at the South Drive In!
Going though a lot of the history that has been captured, I noticed that my love of Exploitation centers in several theaters that actually focused on it for their business instead of just offering it when they can. One of those which seriously deserves a look into is the South Drive In, technically locate in Pelham, NC although being advertised through the Danville, VA paper connects it to that city. As you can tell, it was a screen where a lot of films that wound up on Something Weird Video played, and this means another Drive In ad collection to be checked out!
Take not of the ads that place the Sexploitation above the more general audience flicks…that’s knowing your audience in Passion Pit Land!
12-31-67 – The New Year that sends the Bad Girls to Hell!
2-7-67, Featuring Love Goddess of Blood Island under it’s OTHER AKA!
7-30-67 – To today’s cinema’s audiences, this would be an odd pairing, but that was the thing for the Drive Ins in the classic era. “Monster Go Go” looks more like the infamous Monster a Go Go.
10-31-69 – The competition was good, with the Capitol playing Jess Franco’s classic Succubus. Still I think that the South got the business for their showing of Distribpix’s flick.
1-18-69, Another classic Distribpix ad!
3-24-70, Ads were getting smaller, but the films still remained the stuff Passion Pits were made of.
5-8-64, Ending this with a CLASSIC! You know it, you love it.
From what I remember, the Drive In’s ads turned word-only by 172, making things less exciting for the research, but more is planned to happen soon.
