Dr. Tarr at The Fox!
The wonderful, scary, surreal, and very interesting Dr. Tarr’s Torture Dungeon, Directed by Juan Lopez Moctezuma (Alucarda), was Distributed through Group One in The US. Based on Poe’s Doctor Tarr and Professor Feather, and originally released as The Mansion of Madness, this was played in Detroit for a week at The Fox, June, 1976 with the unlikely match of Thunder Kick, released in The US through Cannon but, hey, something for everyone, right!
Later in May, 1977, Group One presented the film in a more fitting double feature with Mansion of the Doomed, Directed by Michael Pataki and written by Frank Ray Perilli, who might have been the inspiration of one F. Ray you see on some Group One ads as he also worked on the notable release Alligator. Although Mansion was the headliner this time, Dr. Tarr was the Head-TRIP that was so much better, and they played the Adams, Northgare, Rouge, and Wynadotte hard-tops along with the Blue Sky, Dearborn, Ecorse Rd., Galaxy, Gratiot, Holiday, and Wayne DIs.
I think the words “Gotta Catch Them All” apply to the YouTube Errors on this Blog.
